Welcome to IGN's Walkthrough for the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. This page contains information on Lanayru Mine, including preparing for the journey to Lanayru, and how to make use of the Timeshift Stones.

Preparing for Lanayru

Before heading to Lanayru Desert you can do several things. First, go shopping!

  • Head to Faron Woods(in the Into the Woods area)and search north for a bombable wall for a heart piece.
  • Head to Pumpkin Island and talk to Pumm for job 2.
  • Head to the Bazaar to purchase/upgrade a Wooden Shield to a Banded Shield. Your Iron Shield is susceptible to electric attacks and is relatively useless in Lanayru.
  • Purchase another Adventure Pouch Upgrade at Beedle's Shop
  • Purchase another Wallet Upgrade too.

Head to Lanayru, the yellow column of light, when you are ready.

Video Guide - Lanyru Mine

When you land in Lanayru there is a ridge around the area with a chest on it -- you can't get this now, but you'll be able to get up to the ledge with an item you find later.

For now you can collect a Goddess Cube behind the platform you land on. This opens a Silver Rupee chest northwest of Skyloft. Ignore the defunct robots for now.

You can also stock up on bombs back here. The rock piles in the area hold some rupees. There is also a Sand Cicadaon the back of the pillar if you wish to grab it.

Head north and push the mine cart down the track so it falls off the ledge. Now, pull it to the far side and use it to climb up the ledge.

The Yellow Chuchus here send out occasional electric shocks and quite annoying. Only slice them between jolts.

Larger versions of the Yellow Chuchu will swallow Bombs, detonating shortly afterwards. Use this to conserve hearts.

In the next clearing, collect Rupees with your Beetle, then whack the crystal in the middle of the area.

This is a Timeshift Stone, and it will transform a small portion of the desert to its former lushness and vibrancy. These are found throughout Lanayru and are used to solve all sorts of puzzles.

The LD-301 robots in the area will come to life in the presence of the Timeshift Stone. You can talk to them before moving on. In between the conveyor belts to the west is a rare, usefulTreasure, theAncient Flower.

These only appear in the time bubbles left by Timeshift Stones. Hop in the mine cart in the area and it will take you through a door to the north for a Red Rupee Chest.

The other mine cart track can only be used if you push the mine cart from the east into the time bubble.

Hop in it to proceed south. At the end of the mine cart track will be yet anotherAncient Flower.

Speaking of Timeshift Stones, there is another one in this room, but it is under a pile of rocks.

Bomb the rocks and whack it to bring the room into its own time bubble. The statue on the wall has a vessel that a bomb fits perfectly into.

Throw a Bomb into this vessel and the statue will fall flat, allowing you to proceed to the west.

Four more of these statues lie in the sandpit to the east. This quicksand is extremely dangerous.

It will suck you in if you don't run, but running saps your Stamina Guage significantly. This means you must run to nearby safe spots and recover to cross the quicksand.

To make a safe spot (or four), bomb the statues in the hallway. Behind one on the north side is a hole leading to a room with a Red Rupee Chest.

There are also Lanayru Ants hiding in the vases for your bug collection.

The sandy hallway leads to a larger quicksand room with Electro Spumes in it. To kill Electro Spumes quickly, just bowl a Bomb at them.

You can cross this room using the islands. Just run to the nearest island and recharge, then run to the next to cross the void.

You can return shortly for the Chest on the high platform.

Run up the hill and hang a left. The quicksand-filled passage to the west has several clumps of rocks in it.

You can bowl Bombs at the rock clumps to blow them up and reveal a Timeshift Stone in the distance.

Blowing up the rocks around it will also activate the Timeshift Stone.

This will fill the quicksand with grass and make it crossable. On your way across, pick up the Ancient Flower. As you walk down the corridor notice there are two Gerudo Dragonflies to catch. Afterwards, you can now make your way to the Chest in the south, which holds a different item for each game.

It has been known to obtain some of the most rare collectables such as aBlue Bird Feather, a Goddess Plume, or aGolden Skull. Even better, ANOTHER Ancient Flower can be found growing behind the chest platform!

In the large quicksand room that's partially in the past now, there is a mine cart you can push in to the Timeshift Stone bubble and then ride north.
