Strategy[edit | edit source]
Completing the Fight Caves involves fighting through 62 waves of progressively more difficult combinations of monster spawns before taking on the final boss, Tz-Tok Jad. If the player tries to log out in the cave, the game will log them out at the end of the ongoing wave. Attempting to log out a second time will allow the player to log out immediately, but the player will have to repeat the interrupted wave.
Monster waves[edit | edit source]
The current wave that the player is on is shown at the beginning of each wave. Each wave contains different combinations of 6 types of TzHaar. The number and difficulty of the monsters encountered will increase as the waves progress.
Name | Level | First Wave | Life points | Attack style | Max hit (approx.) | Weakness | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tz-Kih | 22 | 1 | 3,000 | Melee | 300 | Water spells | Uses melee attacks. Drains prayer points when attacking a player and has a minimum drain of +10 prayer points per attack. |
Tz-Kek | 45 | 3 | 6,200 | Melee | 300 | Water spells | A melee fighter. When it dies, two level 22 Tz-Keks take its place. |
Tz-Kek (small) | 22 | 3 | 6,200 | Melee | 300 | Water spells | Two of these appear when a level 45 Tz-Kek is killed. They have identical stats to their larger counterparts. |
Tok-Xil | 90 | 7 | 7,500 | Ranged, Melee | 780 | Slash | An accurate Ranged fighter. |
Yt-MejKot | 180 | 15 | 10,000 | Melee | 1,100 | Water spells | A slow melee fighter. This monster can heal itself and other monsters when attacking the player. |
Ket-Zek | 360 | 31 | 15,000 | Magic, Melee | 1,500 | Arrows | When in melee range, it will use both Magic and melee attacks. These can be used in the later waves to block the Yt-MejKots. |
TzTok-Jad | 702 | 63 | 40,000 | Melee, Magic, Ranged | 8,000 | Nothing | The final boss of the Fight Cave. Uses Ranged, Magic and melee attacks. Has one of the highest max hits of any monster in RuneScape. |
Yt-HurKot | 108 | 63 | 10,000 | Melee | 140 | Water spells | Four of them appear when TzTok-Jad is at half health to heal it. They can heal each other or themselves when in melee range like their cousin the Yt-MejKot. If they heal TzTok-Jad back to full health before being killed, they will spawn again. |
During the waves you should aim to conserve supplies as much as possible. Prioritise killing the monsters in this order: Tz-Kih (22) > Tok-Xil (90) > Ket-Zek (360) > Yt-MejKot (180) > Tz-Kek (45). Players with high levels and setups should be able to pass through the waves while taking minimal damage but lower level players may need to use protection prayers as attacks become more frequent and intense.
There are several spawn points that monsters can appear from and there are also some safespots. Lower level players may wish to use the safespot under the crook of the projecting west wall in the south-west part of the cave at the start of each wave. Any monsters that do not spawn to the south will be lured onto the rock where they cannot attack you.

TzTok-Jad[edit | edit source]
After the 62nd wave prepare for the final fight with TzTok-Jad. You will need to pay careful attention to the movements that indicate which attack he is about to use and quickly switch protection prayers accordingly.
TzTok-Jad has a maximum hit of 8,000, however this is negated to 1 if the player uses the correct Protection Prayer to defend against his attacks. It is recommended to keep your health high if you are inexperienced in case of any mistakes. It is also recommended that you attack Jad from a distance so that he only uses his Ranged and Magic attacks. Jad usually opens the fight with a Ranged attack, so having Protect from Ranged on before the final wave starts is advised.
Jad has three attacks which require prayer switching:
Attack | Type | Prayer required | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Melee attack | Deflect Melee Protect from Melee | Jad swipes at the player without warning using his right claw. This attack is only used if the player is within melee range, and Jad will not move closer to the player if they attack from outside of his melee range. | |
Ranged attack | Deflect Ranged Protect from Ranged | Jad slams down his front legs onto the ground, causing large cracks to appear in the floor, and a boulder will fall from the ceiling onto the player. This cannot be avoided by moving. | |
Magic attack | Deflect Magic Protect from Magic | Jad breathes fire shortly and lowers his head before raising his front feet and emitting a fireball that deals Magic damage upon hitting the player. |
When TzTok-Jad is down to half health, he will summon four Yt-HurKots which will heal him continuously until they are killed. If you kill them after TzTok-Jad has been healed to full health, when you get him down to half health, the Yt-HurKots will respawn again. However, if you manage to kill all four of the Yt-HurKots before they bring Jad up to full health, they will not respawn when a player brings TzTok-Jad down to half health again. It is much easier to win the fight without killing the healers. Once they spawn, simply attack all of them one by one so they target you. It is fine if they keep healing Jad, just make sure you draw the attention of all four. Move away from Jad, bringing the healers with you. Continue to prayer switch to avoid taking damage. Once the healers are out of range of Jad, move back and attack him again. Do not kill the healers. Focus on Jad and prayer switching. When he drops back down to half health, no more healers will spawn because they are already attacking you. Finish killing Jad and claim your cape!
When the wave starts, it is recommended that the player has auto-retaliate on, so that they will be drawn to him if he spawned out of sight, and the Protect from Ranged prayer activated, since that's his most common starting attack. It is recommended to use Barricade or Resonance if Jad spawns out of sight and you are using a shield, as it will negate damage long enough for you to find him. It is not recommended to engage TzTok-Jad using melee, since TzTok-Jad will use all three types of combat to engage the player, and it is a lot easier to protect against two combat types than three. Therefore, a combination of Ranged/Magic attacks and Prayer switching is usually preferred. TzTok-Jad can deal up to 8,000damage in one hit sounless you have over 8,000life points, you can potentially be one-hit if one of Jad's attacks hit you. Most players use Saradomin brews in conjunction with restore potions or overloads to boost their life points above their maximum normal life points, to reduce the chance of dying from Jad's attacks if something goes wrong.
